Are you looking for Private Equity Classes?  This article will serve as a guide to you for finding private equity classes and what options you have in finding a private equity class.  Classes on the industry are not incredibly common because the industry is not as large as say the banking industry or corporate finance.  This does not mean that you are completely out of luck.  Here are some options if you can't find a university class on private equity:
  • Financial modeling courses:  These courses are very important if you want to get an entry level job at a buyout or venture capital firm.  Analysts at these firms have to use financial models to conduct valuation and evaluate various possible investments, so a course in financial modeling is still applicable to PE.
  • Corporate finance:  While this is not directly applicable, many of the problems and solutions in corporate finance are exactly what buyout firms deal with when managing their portfolio companies.  So, a corporate finance course could be extremely valuable in your PE career.
  • PE Training Courses:  There are a few PE Training Programs that are targeted specifically to professionals looking to supplement university education with practical professional training in PE.  This may be a valuable solution to the lack of PE-specific courses at the university level.
  • An MBA: Completing a Master's in Business Administration can be time consuming and costly, but an MBA is a great addition to a resume and many PE firms require an MBA for you to be considered for management and upper-level positions.  Additionally, many of the courses are directed at professionals expecting to work in M&A and PE.
  • Alternative Investments Courses:  If you can find a course with alternative investments or alternative assets as the subject, you should definitely take it.  Although it may also focus on hedge funds it will certainly also include PE, even though it is not the exclusive focus of the course.
