Even if you have experience interviewing for a job, there are some tips that may be able to help you secure a job. Following these free interview tips won't guarantee you work, but they will go a long way in helping you get past the interview stage of the process. Without any more hesitation, here are the interview tips you should follow.
Research the Company
The first step toward success when it comes to a job interview is to research the company you're interviewing with. This can give you information on what questions to ask when the interview comes to that point as well as giving you some insight on questions the company may ask of you.
Practice Interviews
Whether you find a stranger willing to help you or use a family member or friend, conducting a practice interview for a specific company or position you want can help tremendously. For one, it can give you a small idea of what to expect and help you prepare mentally for what you're going to face during the interview.
Dress for Success
Even if the job you want doesn't require dressing up, you are going to want to look your very best for the interview. This doesn't always necessarily mean a suit (or dress) as it's possible to look nice without dressing up. You don't even need to spend a lot of money on new clothes. Just make sure you have something respectable. (No baggy, droopy jeans!)
Speak Clearly
Mumbling not only increases the chance you're not understood correctly, it can make you seem like not such a good fit, even if the job doesn't require much verbal communication. Speaking clearly - not necessarily loudly - can go a long way in making a job interview more successful.
Keep Eye Contact
You don't want to initiate a staring contest with the person conducting the job interview, but you should strive to maintain eye contact during the job interview. This will let the other person know that you are listening and that you can connect with another person.
Don't Offer Too Much Information
While you should answer any and all questions truthfully and to the best of your ability, if a question isn't asked, there's really no need to answer it or provide the information on your own. Sticking to answering the questions that are asked of you is a good way to show you can listen, which is sometimes more important than the ability to communicate.
Remember to Say Thanks
A small thank you letter or note can go a long way in helping separate you from the crowd of applicants. This can cost a bit of money, especially if you've been on a few interviews already, but it's a good idea for many reasons. You don't even need to spend a lot of money if you print the note or card yourself and drop it off in person.
