• Does the organization managing the certification have experience in the industry? The last thing you want in a training organization is one run by someone who has never worked in the industry or has no idea how the industry works. Still, you find companies providing training developed by a media company or by a firm that provides training in random unrelated industry like, for example, providing a computer engineering certification. So be careful to avoid obvious profit seeking education providers, these companies are not interested in providing real training, only in extracting as much money from you as possible. So, be sure that the leader of the firm is at least respected and known in the industry.
• Is the training program too expensive? HF training programs will often charge what the participant is willing to pay. Some professionals looking for professional HF certification programs have a lot of money to invest in a certification program. These people tend to work for large corporations or funds and have money to throw at training. But in my firm's experience, the average certification program participant doesn't have this level of income and would like to save as much as possible. There are programs out there with you in mind and will find ways to work with your income level. If you are paying thousands of dollars for training you are paying too much and should look for a more affordable program.
