In May 2010 Forbes Magazine featured the top 10 most and least paying jobs. Everyone wants a job that pays well enough to support themselves and their families. As expected, doctors make the most money, however that has been justified by the extreme costs of education as well as malpractice insurance which is required by physicians in order to do their jobs.
Here is the list of 10 highest paying jobs in the US today and their average salaries.
1. Surgeons - $219,000
2. Anesthesiologist - $211,000
3. Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon - $210,000
4. Orthodontist - $206,000
5. OB/GYN - $204,000
6. General Internist - $183,000
7. All other Physicians - $173,000
8. Family and General Practitioner - $168,000
9. Chief Executive - $167,000
10. Psychiatrist - $163,000
Most of these jobs require at least a masters or PhD degree in order to be qualified for employment. Because of this, a great deal of education and study is required beyond the standard undergraduate degrees. As a physician of any kind, licensing is required which gives you no choice but to earn a doctoral degree.
While it is rare that a Chief Executive be able to find a position with just an undergraduate degree it is possible. However pursuing a higher degree than a Bachelor's degree could be beneficial to the business as a whole. One lesson that can be learned from this list is that certainly a higher level of education can have the potential of earning more money and becoming more successful professionally speaking.
