Do You Hate To Go To Work? Have You Outgrown Your Job? I Have The Answers

By Dianna Rivera

Do you get a sick feeling every time you pull into the parking lot? You automatically begin to get a stress headache? Have you been taking more medication lately than you ever have before?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then maybe a career change needs to take place. There are so many reasons that people continue to go to work with these symptoms, let me list a few of the reasons that we tolerate the so called job of choice:

1. You went to college to be in this profession. College was expensive, you have to pay back the college loans.

2. Have been told numerous times "you should consider yourself one of the lucky ones to have a job in this economy."

3. You have to many bills to quit your job, regardless of how you are feeling. So you will continue to come to this place called work.

4. This is the way that life is: go to high school and graduate, go to college and graduate, and then get a job stay there until you retire.

5. There is no way out.

First of all, these are just excuses that you tell yourself to make you feel better. This gets you through the day. Before the time clock is punched in to go to work, you wish that you were punching out to go home.

The questions, that needs to be asked:

Was this job always like this? If the answer is yes - then you have changed. Meaning that you have developed much quicker than expected. You are ready to move onto something that is more challenging. Possibly the next level in the company. If the answer is no - then the company has changed. Maybe the changes were hard for you to adjust too. Maybe you really just want to start a career somewhere else.

What is different now? You need to make a list of all the things that are different now than when you first started working at this place of employment. Do this on a day that has been going fairly well for you. Do not do this on a bad day, this would make it very easy to be biased. Take your time and make your list of pros and cons. Weigh out the good, bad and ugly, this should be an indicator if this is a job for you.

Have I outgrown my job? In working in the position that you are currently in, if you are not challenged frequently then you become complacent. If going to work means earning a paycheck and not leaving as though you have accomplished something positive, then yes you have outgrown your job.

Have I lost the hunger and desire to be the best that I can be in this field? If you go to work and are proud of what you have accomplished on a daily basis then stay in this job. But, if you have no desire to improve or create better results than the day before, then the hunger factor is gone. If you continue to work in this environment you will be miserable.

Am I letting the my family down by continuing to work here?

If you have lost the drive, hunger and will power to continue to do the best for yourself and the company you are working for, then you are probably taking a little of that home with you. It is so easy to say "leave your work at work", but in reality this is where we spend the majority of our time. Work attitude often overflows at home, if you are having a terrible day at work, chances are you will release a little of those emotions at home. If this is a reality in your life, then yes you are letting your family down by staying at this place of employment.

Steps To Finding The Best Fitting Job For You!

Making Your Job Your Hobby. Everyone loves to do things that they enjoy! I know that I do. If everyone would find a job that would compliment their hobby, then work would be a lot more fun, educational, and enjoyable. Attendance would be super, accidents would be less, quality of work would be better, and quality of life would be great.

Find a job that fits your personality. If you know that you are not a personable person, then do not work in a department store. If you do not like kids, then do not go to college to become an elementary school teacher, that would be a waste of money. Common sense is the biggest factor here.

Pick a Job That Pays You What You Are Worth. Make sure that you do your research and find a job that meets the financial needs of your lifestyle. Being realistic while locating these opportunities: your education level (will discuss later), location that you live, and type of work you like to do.

Current Education Level. While this is a factor, it is not the only factor. I have worked in a factory with people of all different backgrounds and educational levels. Many have paid a lot of money for their education, while others had very little to no education. But guess what, we all got paid the same amount! If you would like to go back to school there are more opportunities now than ever. There are many grants available, you just need to look for them. Find your passion first, then pick your education! Junior colleges are a great place to start and are very affordable. Take online classes, they can be a lifesaver, but only if you are a self starter!

Location. If you love where you live and you do not want to move, but want to make a good living, what do you do? You need to make a list of everything available in your area. Just keep in mind that small communities can limit jobs. Sometimes commuting to further away cities to work might be your only option. Do your research first. Would you consider moving if you found the job that met all of your criteria? This is something that you need to think about. Better yet, come join me at job, I prefer to call it my paid hobby!

Type of Work You Want to Do. Clearly define what kind of work that you truly enjoy! It is always better to find work when you have a job already! Remember that you can work anywhere, but finding the job that best fits you, is sometimes hard to find. Keep researching into all types of things that you enjoy doing. Do not limit yourself to just one of your hobbies.
